Little Zig: A Fusion of Ancient and Futuristic Design

Translating Abstract Art into Functional Lighting

The Little Zig lamp is part of an ongoing collaboration between furniture designer Eve Fineman and visual artist Henri Preiss. The series aims to translate two-dimensional imagery into three-dimensional objects, resulting in designs that are both visually captivating and practical.

What sets the Little Zig lamp apart is its contrasting materials and production process. The acrylic shade, featuring a ziggurat formation, is produced using CAD drawings and a laser cutter, while the concrete base is cast using a mold. This digital fabrication technology allows for minimal waste and straightforward manufacturing.

With dimensions of 9.5"H x 9"W x 9"D, the Little Zig lamp is designed for easy use and maintenance. The shade rests on the base without any additional attachments, allowing for easy access to the LED bulb. The lamp is equipped with a dimmable, multidirectional bulb that provides a warm white glow. Rubber feet, designed as an inverted form of the base, not only provide stability but also protect surfaces from scratches.

The lamp was also exhibited at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, IL as part of the Chicago Furniture Designers Association.

The creative process behind the Little Zig lamp involved translating a 2-dimensional element from a painting into a functional 3-dimensional object.
